No Kid Should Go Back to School Empty-Handed

VOANLA & Operation Backpack® Provide Supplies for CIS Students at Booker T. Washington and Woodlawn High Schools

Shreveport, LA (August 26, 2025)— Volunteers of America North Louisiana (VOANLA) is proud to participate in Operation Backpack®’s annual initiative, ensuring that no student begins the school year without the tools they need to succeed. This year, the program focused on providing high school students in our Communities In Schools (CIS) program at Booker T. Washington High School and Woodlawn High School with essential supplies and backpacks.
Recognizing that many families in our community face financial challenges, VOANLA in a licensed partnership with CIS is committed to easing the burden and helping students return to school with dignity, confidence, and readiness to learn. Operation Backpack® equips our CIS students not only with notebooks, pens, and backpacks, but also with a renewed sense of possibility and belonging.
“Every student deserves the chance to walk into the classroom on the first day feeling prepared and confident,” said Jenesis Gibson, Vice President of VOANLA’s Children and Family Services. “Operation Backpack® is more than just school supplies. It is about leveling the playing field for students in our community and investing in their future.”
Operation Backpack® would not be possible without the support of generous community partners, donors, and volunteers who share the mission of empowering young people to succeed. Together, these efforts provide hundreds of students with the resources they need to thrive academically and personally.
