Supportive Services For Veteran Families

As more veterans continue to struggle when they return from war and leave the service, Volunteers of America is here to provide a short-term safety net for very low-income veterans and their families. Through emotional and financial support, we can prevent homelessness and help veterans in transition to find safe, stable housing.

Eligibility Requirements:

Veterans and their families – a single person or family in which the head of household or their spouse is a veteran with an honorable discharge.

Very low income – household income must not exceed 50% of the area median income

Occupying permanent housing – a) living in permanent, rental housing b) homeless and scheduled to move into permanent housing within 90 days or c) have exited permanent housing in the previous 90 days to seek another place to live.

North Louisiana and Southern Arkansas – Volunteers of America will assist those veterans living in the Shreveport-Bossier-Minden area and those in the Texarkana area.

Services Available:

We will offer case management services and temporary assistance (ranges 3 to 9 months) which could include:

  • Health care services
  • Housing counseling
  • Daily living services
  • Credit counseling
  • Security deposits
  • Transportation assistance
  • Rental/utility payments
  • Legal services
  • Child care assistance
  • Emergency supplies
