Local fourth and eighth graders need volunteer help to get ready for the LEAP test. It only takes two hours a week and you can make a huge difference.
Volunteers of America of North Louisiana is seeking tutors for students who will be taking the LEAP test in April. Tutors will be assigned to a particular student, and the pairs will review skills the students will need for the test. A workbook is provided.
Last year, those who received the extra help were more likely to pass than their peers at the same school.
Tutoring begins Jan. 21 and will continue until April 3 except for the weeks of preliminary testing (March 17-21) and Spring Break (March 24–28). Volunteers can choose one or two hours a week from the following times and places:
Westwood Elementary, 7325 Jewella Ave.: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The LightHouse, 802 Travis St.: Choose an hour between 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Please call or e-mail Sondra Dixon at 429-7510 or sondra.dixon@0426f73.netsolhost.com if you are able to help.
