Volunteers of America Opens South Pointe Place in Shreveport,

Providing Affordable Housing to 50 Local Senior Adults

Volunteers of America, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit providers of affordable housing, will host a grand opening for South Pointe Place, an affordable housing community for low-income senior adults and families in Shreveport. The 50-unit, three-story apartment complex aims to fulfill an unmet demand for affordable housing for senior adults in the region.

Built in a convenient location close to the Red River, South Pointe Place offers one-bedroom/one-bathroom units complete with granite countertops and upgraded appliances. Offering maintenance-free living in a smoke-free community, South Pointe Place has on-site laundry facilities, attractive community room with indoor and outdoor patio seating, wheelchair accessibility, and a computer/arts and crafts room, overseen by a professional, quality, friendly management team on site. All apartment homes are for qualifying persons 62 years of age and older with rent based on 30% of adjusted gross monthly income. Water and heat are included.

The building is also the new home of our adult day health program, The Ballington Center. The center is a day program which provides activities and medical supervision for adults with physical or mental limitations. Our goals are to improve quality of life, relieve loneliness and avoid institutional care.
